WakeBase Jump off a Dubai Infinity Pool

Brian Grubb is a professional wakeboarder and wakeskater known for his innovative and creative riding style. He was born on April 17, 1980, in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA.

WakeBASE

Pioneering American wakeskater and three-time world champion Brian Grubb undertook a groundbreaking venture known as “WakeBASE.”

This daring project seamlessly combined drone-powered wakeskating with the exhilarating realm of BASE jumping. The spectacular stage for this endeavor was set at the Address Beach Resort in Dubai, home to a Guinness World Record-holding infinity pool perched 294 meters above sea level.

Grubb’s extraordinary challenge commenced with a 94-meter wakeskating escapade across the rooftop pool, expertly towed by a specially engineered drone. The grand finale featured Grubb executing a BASE jump from the pool’s edge, descending a staggering 77 stories before gracefully touching down on the beach below.

This remarkable achievement not only fulfilled Grubb’s seven-year dream but also etched a historic milestone in the annals of extreme sports.

Preparation

In preparation for “WakeBASE,” Grubb underwent intensive training under the guidance of BASE jump legend Miles Daisher. Despite having a modest 26 BASE jumps to his credit as of December 2022, Grubb remarkably completed 106 jumps during his rigorous training in Idaho, USA, and the renowned BASE jump location of Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland.

The collaboration with Prada played a pivotal role in the project, providing custom performance gear meticulously designed to meet the unique demands of both wakeskating and BASE jumping.

The specially crafted drone, led by Sebastian Stare and his team, featured bespoke hardware and software tailored to the exacting requirements of “WakeBASE.”

Location

The choice of the Address Beach Resort in Dubai was strategic, capitalizing on its elevated infinity pool and architectural layout, which proved ideal for both the wakeskating run and the subsequent BASE jump.

Innovator

Brian Grubb has gained recognition for pushing the boundaries of wakeboarding and wakeskating, incorporating elements of both sports into his performances. He is often credited with introducing “winching,” where riders are towed by a winch across various terrains, including rivers, lakes, and urban environments.

Grubb has been involved in various wakeboarding competitions and has received accolades for his achievements. He is also known for participating in Red Bull events and collaborating with other athletes to create unique and challenging wakeboarding projects.
