Paragliding World Record Set In Brazil

Paragliding World Record Set In BrazilBrazil is having a good year for world records. Just a little less than a month after Marcelo Prieto, Donizete Lemos, and Frank Brown set a new paragliding world record for their 513km flight in Brazil, Italian Nicole Fedele set out to beat the record that she set 2 years ago in women’s paragliding.

On the 7th of November 2013, Fedele flew 376.5km in Brazil to set the world record for straight distance paragliding.  Now back in Brazil a little under two years later, she has beaten her own record flying a Triple Seven King Paraglider, which she chose for its performance and security. On Tuesday, November 3rd, Fedele started out in Quixada, Brazil, known to be a popular place for airsports. The weather conditions in that area were very windy that day. She landed in Barras, Brazil in 9 hours and 21 minutes, flying 401km in total and setting the new world record.

Fedele has been paragliding since 2002 and is a member of the Italian National Female Paragliding Team, winning a gold medal in the European Championships in 2012 and an individual silver medal in 2013. She also holds 8 other world records, including the paragliding women’s speed over a 100 km out-and-return world record, which she set earlier this year.

Fedele said, “Paragliding for me is not just a sport, it is a philosophy of life. Paragliding is in everything I do: in my daily life, and even in my dreams. Whenever I reach a goal, I focus on the next one right away.” This record is just another goal she has achieved.
